SENIOR PHARMACY TECHNICIAN – Medicines Management (Band 5)

Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) Permanent (Maternity Cover)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC to join our award-winning Pharmacy team. This role involves ward-based activities providing face to face patient contact, completing Medicines reconciliation, and Discharge support to specialist ward areas. Alongside these duties you will also be expected to support our dispensary and decentralised Hubs providing final checking duties and dispensing medicines.

Main duties of the job

The candidate should hold a nationally recognised Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification and a Medicines Reconciliation qualification. The candidate must have current/recent experience in a ward-based role.

Successful candidates will have experience in prioritising patients within ward areas; reducing missed doses by ensuring critical medications and complex patients are prioritised, whilst ensuring patients have Medicines Reconciliation completed within the 48 hours target times and providing discharge facilitation to patients highlighted for discharge. Experience managing clinical queries and having an ability to delegate to the appropriate member of the multi-disciplinary team is essential to supporting the ward clinical team.

Working for our organisation

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a multi-award winning hospital which officially opened in May 1998 and is situated within easy walking distance of the historic town centre of Dorchester. It employs around 3,000 members of staff, who provide acute hospital services to a population of around 250,000, living within Weymouth and Portland, West Dorset, North Dorset and Purbeck. We also provide renal services for patients throughout Dorset and South Somerset. Dorchester itself is an intriguing mix of historic and the modern, with the new Brewery Square development offering a vibrant and sophisticated leisure and shopping complex. Take a look at Visit Dorset to see what the area has to offer.

The purpose-built Pharmacy provides a clinical pharmacy service to Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The dispensary benefits from a new BD robot installation and a Prescription Tracking System, and an Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration is in use throughout the majority of the hospital.

We are an innovative forward-thinking department that has just undergone an exciting renovation. A series of in-house developments are still underway, giving the opportunity for successful candidates to be involved in dynamic projects which offer professional progression. Our staff are our most precious resource, and so the growth and development of those that work within this dynamic department is prioritised.
