Job overview
Fixed Term Maternity Cover one year: 37.5 hours per week
The post-holder will be working as part of the Surgical Admissions Lounge team and will be involved in the admission process of patients undergoing Surgery / Interventional Radiology procedures. Experience in phlebotomy and ECG is an advantage but training will be provided.
Surgical Admissions Lounge is a nurse led department and we strive for excellence and are passionate about the quality of care we deliver to our patients.
You will work as part of the nursing team, ensuring our patients are prepared safely for theatre and receive high standards of care from the very start of their hospital journey. Your main role will be managing your own workload by preparing patients for surgery, under supervision of trained staff.
Main duties of the job
You will:
- Work proactively to ensure that theatre utilisation is optimised.
- Maintain our existing processes.
- Promote and deliver a high quality, patient focused service.
- Carry out regular auditing to ensure high levels of care are maintained.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Minimum pass grade in Mathematics (GCSE, CSE or O level or equivalent
- Minimum of pass grade in English Language (GCSE, CSE or O Level or equivalent)
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous/recent experience of working in an acute secondary NHS care setting
- Evidence of knowledge in surgical pathway and recent work experience of surgical/operating department within the last 2 years
- Experience of working on own and in a team within a health care environment
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates achievement of numeracy and literacy skills
- Ability to read/write, speak, receive and understand instructions in English
Desirable criteria
- Good IT skills and an ability to retrieve and record information electronically
- Competent in a range of clinical skills, including taking manual BP, ECG and phlebotomy (although training can be provided if other skills are identified)
- Willingness to undertake training relevant to the scope of practice required
- Can work effectively as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team
