Are you an experienced Clinical Psychologist? Come and join our Community Learning Disability Team based in West Dorset. We would welcome applications for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist.

As a Clinical Psychologist, you will provide psychological assessment, formulation and treatment to adults with learning disabilities who have a range of psychological conditions. Our team of psychologists have a number of therapy specialties including EMDR, CAT, ACT and CBT. We are involved in a range of exciting initiatives including developing the dementia pathway, development of therapy packs, capacity assessments, and much more.  

You will assist with supervision to assistant psychologists and guide doctoral trainee clinical psychologists on placement. You will work closely with a range of skilled and dedicated professionals within a multi-disciplinary team. We provide excellent clinical supervision, support, and opportunities to develop skills and professional development.  We have a brilliant record of providing additional training opportunities to our clinical psychologists, with further training in a range of therapies as well as specialist areas of interest for individual clinicians. 

We provide a comprehensive and supported Preceptorship Programme from the Band 7 to Band 8a for this role. This is a great opportunity to consolidate and develop core skills learned during clinical training, under the supervision of highly skilled and experienced clinical psychologists.

The role is very diverse, and allows opportunities to develop your own individual therapy skills, work on service development, continue with your professional development, and work with a range of really skilled professionals who are all passionate about working with adults who have a learning disability.  Clinical work covers a whole range of different problems with which patients may present, as well as skilled and often complex assessment, including capacity across a range of areas, diagnostic assessments, etc.  Group work is possible and can be done with colleagues from within the CTLD as well as with colleagues in other services.  Consultation and supervision of other professionals from within the Psychology Team, as well as the wider MDT is a regular part of our role.

This is a part time post of 25.2 hours per week based at Acland Road in Dorchester, in the heart of Dorset.

Knowledge, skills and training

  • Post-graduate doctorate in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or HCPC.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
  • Experience of clinical supervision for trainee and assistant clinical psychologists
  • Knowledge of legislation, white papers, etc. and implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to older adults and adults with Learning Disabilities
  • Membership of HCPC

Job Specific Experience

  • Clinical experience with adults with Learning Disability diagnosis, particularly those in community placements.
  • Experience of Assessment and Formulation in Adults with an LD
  • Experience and formal training in at least 2 psychological therapies
  • Experience in completing specialist assessments such as capacity assessment, dementia assessment, etc
  • Competent knowledge of neuropsychological testing

  • Ability to use a computer and Internet for word processing, keeping electronic notes, spreadsheets, presentations, teaching and information seeking purposes

  • Subject to the provisions of the Equality Act, able to travel using own vehicle on Trust business.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the BPS and HCPC and working to professional guidelines. Must be capable of working on their own initiative and acting independently
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English to a standard which enables the post holder to carry out the full range of duties and responsibilities of the role effectively.
  • Must have a car as role requires driving around the rural area of West Dorset to visit clients in their homes and day centres etc.
