BOA National Future Leaders Fellowship - Foot & Ankle
This Trust can facilitate a BOA Future Leaders Fellowship, a scheme for CCT holders who have yet to be appointed for a substantive consultant posts. Completion of the Fellowship may lead to a Post Graduate Certificate in Leading Clinical Innovation and Improving Performance. A contribution by the Fellow and the Trust to the Diploma course will normally be required. All Fellows must be members of the BOA. If successful, individuals must apply direct to the BOA for a place on the Future Leaders scheme.
Main duties of the job
The Fellow will work within the Foot & Ankle service in Trauma & Orthopaedics at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to undertake a fellowship in a post primarily designed for surgeons who have passed their FRCS (T&O) examination and achieved CCT and wish to gain specialist surgical experience prior to applying for a Consultant post.
They will work with the consultant orthopaedic surgeons, concentrating upon foot and ankle surgery, including ankle joint replacements, arthroscopic ankle surgery and complex foot and ankle trauma surgery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
There is the opportunity for the post holder to take part in an out of hour’s trauma on call.
The Trust has strong links with Teesside University and has a track record of supporting trainees through various clinical courses provided by the University.
Although the successful candidate will be based at University Hospital of North Tees, there will be a requirement to work cross site at the University Hospital of Hartlepool. It is a fixed term contract for 12 months.
It is essential that the applicant has a good understanding of clinical risk management and experience of upper limb surgery. In addition to the challenges of the role, we expect commitment to clinical research, teaching and audit.
Other attributes such as excellent inter-personal skills in both clinical and non-clinical environment are required. The applicant should also be able to enthuse, motivate and lead others whilst co-operating with consultants and other professionals in a sensitive and effective manner. Evidence of organising and prioritising workload is necessary.
It is important that the applicant is a team player and adaptable to respond to changing circumstances and be willing to engage in NHS strategies.
