With a budget of around £365m, three hospitals and 5,500 staff, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

Job overview

Applications are invited for this key role to provide support and empower or staff in relation to the delivery of the effective risk management across all services and at all levels. We use effective risk management to support continuous improvement and to provide assurance to the Trust Board, through the Board Assurance Framework, that the controls and assurance are in place to manage risks, both clinical and non-clinical.

The Trust is looking to appoint to the team, an organised individual with knowledge of Risk Management and/or Assurance with excellent communication skills to work with Corporate and Care Group teams to ensure delivery of safe, effective and effective services.

We would welcome applications from individuals with experience in Risk Management and assurance with strong communication and influencing skills.  The successful applicant will apply expert knowledge and leadership skills to build effective working relationships with colleagues within the organisation to share best practice and demonstrate a collaborative, robust and standardised approach to risk management across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the development and management of the Trust’s Risk Management processes and procedures developing links with internal stakeholders and contributing to the broader understanding and embedding of risk within the organisation at an operational level.

The post holder will also support the governance process in relation to the review of the service delivered by the North Trees and Hartlepool Solution

The Risk management Lead will be responsible for the successful delivery of risk management including the Trust’s governance culture and embedding high standards of accountability with regard to identification, management, mitigation and reporting of risk. Supporting the design and maintenance of an effective risk management framework through policies, processes and procedures, to meet internal and external scrutiny and to demonstrate compliance, ensuring that reporting processes reflect a board to ward and ward to board approach through effective communication and engagement

To ensure the Trust is aware of relevant issues, risks and regulatory requirements in order to manage and maintain the positive reputation of the trust whilst ensuring first class proactive engagement and communication.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant field or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Post Graduate study in Risk Management/Audit/Assurance
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical qualification and experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of risk management/ assurance at a senior level, ideally in a complex organisation
  • Effective communication skills across a broad range of staff groups
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS management experience.

Skills and attributes

Essential criteria
  • A robust working understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements and the ability to apply these into practice.
  • Ability to adapt professional knowledge to engage and reflect the needs of relevant specialist clinical staff in risk management
Desirable criteria
  • An understanding of healthcare regulations.
  • Experience of risk management software use
