Role Summary

• To undertake planned preventative maintenance or emergency work as demanded by a Hospital 

• To carry out work as requested by management/supervision using the appropriate current works electronic docket/request system and ensuring that all associated paperwork is completed as required

• To work as part of a departmental team and where necessary to support/assist the work of colleagues, and to be able to work with staff of all levels and disciplines throughout the trust

• To provide a maintenance service to all Trust buildings, and off site properties and be able to work unsupervised. To have a flexible approach to the work and be able to work beyond the normal hours of duty if required and to carry out other tasks from other disciplines should circumstances so dictate

• To ensure work undertaken is completed in a timely manner and that appropriate records are updated through the requisite system

• To be able to work safely in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, and to follow any other safety policies or guidelines as issued by the Trust

• To be compassionate and mindful to our clients and be mindful of the need for safe use, security, storage of plant, equipment and tools

· Assist to motivate, train and develop the maintenance team , ensuring the effective use of labour and materials to provide an efficient maintenance service for the Trust's building assets and to support Trust Managers.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties and Responsibilities

To be formally responsible for the provision of a safe, effective and efficient Estates service, including the discharging of corporate liabilities, procurement of Utilities, professional advice on all Estate matters, responsibility and care of all Engineering systems and buildings including grounds. 

Represent the Trusts interests from corporate, fiscal and statutory compliance aspects. 

Meet the Users needs within the resources available  They will, however, be expected to perform in areas where deemed competent, and be suitably trained to a multi skilled level, with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to work independently or together with other trades. 

 

A technical knowledge and understanding of the following core skill areas are required: 

  • To interpret and work from all verbal and written instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to the decorating trade. 
  • Be able to use all relevant tools and equipment required for decorating. 
  • Have some understanding of the relationship of other craftsperson’s work to his/her own. 
  • Work from ladders and fixed or portable scaffolding at high levels.  
  • Application of all types of paint, preservative and varnish both internally and externally.  
  • Minor repairs using proprietary fillers.  
  • Application of wall and lining papers.   
  • Glazed tiling (new and repairs).

  • Completed and passed an apprenticeship City & Guilds or NVQ level 2
  • Relevant experience

  • Worked within a medical/clinical environment
  • Health and safety certification

Knowledge and Experience

  • A significant amount experience as a Painter/Decorator
  • Proven communication skills
  • Postholder to be multi-skilled with buildings skills plastering/tiling etc.
