Job overview


We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated person with good communication and development skills to undertake this essential post.

The role will involve supporting the Receipt & Distribution Manager working with Pharmacy Receipt & Distribution team, Dispensary team and Support staff for the provision and future development of our Ward Stock supply and Pharmacy Stores services at the Royal Sussex County Hospital & Princess Royal Hospital to include 7 day working.

The successful candidate will have duties in the Ward Receipt & Distribution areas, supporting the Receipt & Distribution Manager in developing and maintaining policies and procedures to ensure a safe, efficient and contemporary service, whilst being part of the day to day operational team.

Applicants essentially to have an experience of working within a Pharmacy environment, have a working knowledge of stock distribution and maintenance systems and experience using Word and Excel.

An NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Service pass is desirable, or English/Maths GCSE (Grade A*-C/9-5) pass essential (if no NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy qualification) required to be able to qualify for interview for this vacant position.

Main duties of the job

This is a progression post from Band 2 to Band 3.

You will have a key role in supporting the pharmacy service to ensure we provide the best possible care for our service users and gain a qualification at the same time.
The successful candidate will participate in duties to include: 

Pharmacy Receipt & Distribution - Receipting and processing pharmaceutical products from suppliers, visiting/supporting wards to ensure an adequate supply of medicines, supplying medicines to other depts internal and external against stock requests and supporting the stock management of the Pharmacy department.                                     

Dispensary Services - Supporting the dispensary, dispensing, in-patients. Reception work and dealing with patients and other hospital staff to include weekend rota cover.                                                   

This is a busy, pro-active and developing team that involves physical and mentally stimulating work with excellent work, communication skills and supports all cross site wards/departments at RSCH and PRH Hospitals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·      To provide day to day support in the Receipt, Distribution, storage of medicines, and storage areas for all pharmaceuticals within the UHsussex Pharmacy footprint, securely storing stock into the allocated areas of shelving and Pharmacy automation, ensuring tidiness, correct labelling, rotation of stock to comply with product storage guidelines and oversee stock stored in appropriate temperature-controlled areas, whilst presenting stock in such a way to enable efficient issues by Pharmacy staff.

 

·     m To partake in completing ward top ups which include visiting wards and providing top up stock checks, picking, packing and setting out for delivery all orders processed by completing the top ups and following the same processes for picking, packing and setting out for delivery all orders processed by the Receipt & Distribution Ward Services team.   

              

·      To provide support and assistance to the Pharmacy Storekeepers to ensure the Daily Stock Takes are counted and checked to comply with Trust Audit requirements and any of related duties the Receipt and Distribution Manager/Senior Assistants require.

 

·      To provide support with the Pharmacy Assistant responsible for departmental expiry date checking to ensure all pharmaceutical areas within the department are checked, and removed monthly to comply with departmental Quality System procedures.

 

To support and assist the Senior Assistant for Waste Management in emptying returned ward boxes and filtering medicines for return from end users, recycling & destruction whilst following COSHH regulations.

 

Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds. As such, we are unable to provide sponsorship for this post. Applicants will therefore need to already have the right to work in the UK to be considered. Essential criteria for apprenticeship funding eligibility:

  • Aged 16 or above
  • Resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years.
  • Must hold a GCSE in Maths & English (Grade A*-C/9-5 OR functional skills in Maths and English
  • Must not hold a Level 3 qualification or above in the same training subject
  • Must not already be in any form of formal government funded education.
  • Ability to complete NVQ level 2 (if not already obtained)
