Job overview

This post holder will be a key team member in supporting the Radiology Department and Management Team. The post holder will provide PA and general secretarial support as well as general administrative duties. They will need to have excellent administrative and communication skills, experience of minute taking and action tracking and be efficient at typing.

The post holder will be based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality administrative and secretarial support to the Radiology Management Team, Radiology Consultants, Heads of department and wider Radiology Department.  You will be required to demonstrate highly developed administrative and communication skills whilst undertaking a wide range of activities. Meeting planning, action tracking, diary management and managing enquiries and specialised bookings will be key components of the role. You will be required to contribute to a wide variety of tasks sometimes within urgent timeframes, many of which confidential in nature. Excellent communication skills are required to ensure the Radiology service runs efficiently.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role of a Radiology Secretary is to provide comprehensive, efficient and high quality secretarial service to the Consultant Radiologists and Registrars, undertaking a wide range of administrative duties within set departmental targets to support the Imaging team.

To utilise excellent time management, organisational and communication skills and an adaptable, flexible approach to produce work of a high standard within expected 
targets.

The Radiology Secretary will not only need to be able to work alone and on their own initiative but also as part of a large team of secretarial and clerical support across the Imaging Department on all Brighton and Sussex University Hospital sites.

  • Organisational skills
  • Excellent knowledge of a full range of secretarial procedures
  • Experience establishing efficient office systems and processes
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS work experience in an acute setting
  • Previous involvement in data collection, patient pathway tracking and data collection

Information Resourcs/IT

Essential criteria
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office including Word, Outlook and Diary Management, Excel, Power Point
  • Compliance and understanding of the Trust policy for Information Governance
  • Effective and accurate keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
  • Previous use of Patient Administration Systems (PAS)
