Job overview

Join us in transforming head and neck cancer care in Sussex. We are delighted to offer a newly funded post at band 7 in speech and language therapy that will be part of a pioneering, multidisciplinary service for head and neck cancer patients across Sussex.  As part of the Radiotherapy Review Project we are expanding the delivery of category 1 radiotherapy at the Eastbourne Radiotherapy Treatment Unit (ERTU) and as such are recruiting to speech and language therapy along with an advance clinical practitioner and dietitian. This new service will bring head and neck radiotherapy closer to home for East Sussex patients who currently have to travel to Brighton.

Main duties of the job

  1. Management of swallowing and communication disorders in head and neck cancer patients.
  2. Videofluoroscopy and Fibre Optic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing.
  3. Training, mentoring, audit, quality improvements, service development, risk management and research.

  1. Dysphagia assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment.
  2. Communication assessment, diagnosis, management and therapy.
  3. Pre-treatment and prehabilitation.
  4. Leading/participating in VFSS and FEES.
  5. Attendance at MDMs and clinics
  6. Patient support.
  7. Clinical administration
  8. Clinical governance - risk management, audit, quality improvement, research.
