Job overview

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the neonatal team based at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester for a fixed 1 year contract covering maternity leave.

We are a Level 1 neonatal unit with 12 cots, providing care for babies at 32 weeks gestation and above.  Out unit includes 2 High Dependency and 10 special care cots.  We are dedicated to Family Integrated Care, supporting families to care for their babies in preparation for discharge 

You will be expected to work alongside the nursing team to provide excellent care to our families. 

You should be a qualified or near to qualifying nurse associate who is keen to work with families and neonates. 

We will offer ongoing training and support for professional development from our Clinical Educator.  Opportunity to spend some time with our Community Neonatal Outreach Nurse working across our sites.

Please note that if you currently work for another NHS Trust or UHSussex and you are applying to accept this position as a secondment opportunity, before applying you must seek agreement and authorisation from your current Trust/Manager. Secondments can’t be agreed without this approval. If you are unable to gain approval you should refrain from applying unless you wish to take this role as a fixed term position.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Be responsible for delivering high quality, patient centred, compassionate care under the leadership and direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) working within all aspects of the nursing process, providing high quality holistic and person-centred care 
    to individuals.
  • Support the registered nurse in the assessment, planning and evaluation of care with focus on promoting health and independence.
  • Carry out specific clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the leadership and direction of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent on setting.
  • Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values.
  • Be an accountable professional.
  • Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual.
  • Have the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individual’s defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the Nursing Associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed.

  • Qualified Nursing Associate on the NMC register
  • Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification
  • GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Completed Care certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to access computerised data
Desirable criteria
  • Care planning skills
  • Previous experience of working in an inpatient environment

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work under own initiative
