Job overview

This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and forward-thinking individual to join the Pharmacy Aseptics team at East Sussex Healthcare Trust.  The successful candidate will be managing a cross-site team consisting of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Workers.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic pharmacist to manage our aseptic unit and lead our cancer services team across East Sussex. Our aseptic unit is located at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings and prepares chemotherapy for administration at both at the Conquest and at Eastbourne District General Hospital.

 

Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy Cancer Services team is a small well-established, close-knit team made up of highly motivated support workers, pharmacy technicians and pharmacists all of whom are committed to making a difference to the service that we provide.

The team itself sit within the wider pharmacy department and the successful candidate will be working closely with many colleagues across the whole department.

We have a very strong working relationship with all of our nurses and clinicians and our pharmacy team is well respected within the Trust.

If appointed, you will be a member of the core leadership team within the Pharmacy Department working together with senior colleagues to deliver our services. The Pharmacy Department at ESHT has an outstanding track record for innovation and has been at the forefront in both integrated care models and cross sector training programmes. You would be joining a dedicated and creative team strongly committed to improving outcomes for our patients.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Pharmacy) / BPharm / MPharm
  • GPhC (Vocational Masters degree in Pharmac (4yrs) and 1 years pre-registration training and experience
  • Diploma / Msc in Clinical Pharmacy or pharmacy practice or other equivalent postgraduate qualification
  • A minimum of 3 years experience of working within an aseptic or manufacturing environment
  • CPD portfolio that demonstrates an ongoing commitment to personal development
  • Demonstrable formal training in aseptic services (such as the Bath or Leeds courses)
Desirable criteria
  • Formal management training or qualification
  • Additional MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance or equivalent experience of Good Manufacturing Practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 1 year pre-registration training and experience
  • Substantial post registration experience in a specialist post within cancer services or associated specialty.
  • Experience as a pharmacist working in aseptic services at a specialist or deputy level
  • Experience in utilising information technology within the workplace including inputting, retrieving information and producing reports
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office – including Word, Excel and Outlook
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with clinicians and a proven track record for influencing change within a directorate or CCG role
  • Previous experience in mentoring and training pharmacy staff
  • Has previous Line management experience
  • Experience of Chemotherapy prescribing systems
