Job overview

We are inviting applications for a Consultant Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in Day Surgery at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

This is a full-time post based within our Anaesthesia Department, with participation in the on-call rota. The role offers excellent opportunities to develop additional specialist interests in line with your experience and training. Potential areas include:

Our department provides comprehensive anaesthetic, acute pain and critical care services across our two District General Hospitals in Eastbourne and Hastings.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, forward-thinking Consultant Anaesthetist to join our collaborative, motivated and supportive team, and to contribute to the continued development of high-quality, patient-centred perioperative care.

Registration & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • CCT in Anaesthesia (or proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) Certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Qualification: a. ND b. PhD c. MSc d. MRCP

Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in all aspects of anaesthesia appropriate to work undertaken in a DGH setting.
  • Able to deliver services without supervision
  • Demonstrates previous experience in day case anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
  • Regional anaesthesia
  • Paediatric anaesthesia
  • Perioperative Training
  • Understanding of service development and appreciation of ERAS concepts

Administration

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in management of department
  • Knowledge of the structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes, including Clinical Governance, and Appraisal
Desirable criteria
  • Management course and / or qualifications

Audit and Research

Essential criteria
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit
  • Commitment to continuing personal development and medical education
  • Understanding of research methodology
Desirable criteria
  • Published audit or research
  • Presentations and/or publications in critical care/anaesthesia publications or at critical care/anaesthesia meetings
  • Evidence of experience of service development e.g. QIPs
  • Ability to lead clinical research project
  • eGCP certification

Personal skills/ qualities

  • Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals

  • Wide experience and enthusiasm for teaching for both senior and junior medical colleagues, undergraduate students, and allied professions.
