Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Senior Biomedical Scientist to work in the Biochemistry Department at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

In your role as a Senior Biomedical Scientist, you will be expected to support the Deputy Lead Biomedical Scientist in managing and overseeing all aspects of the service day to day. As part of the Senior Biomedical Scientist team, you will undertake day to day management tasks. Whilst based at Eastbourne DGH, working in a cross-site team you may be required to work at our Conquest site as necessary.

The applicant will need to demonstrate excellent technical knowledge and skills enabling advanced trouble shooting and problem solving on Roche 8000 modular analysers and Sebia Capilarys 3 analysers currently used in the department as well as supporting implementation of any new equipment in the future. You will need to show a keen interest in departmental IT systems and will participate in management of current systems and implementation of future systems at departmental level.

Main duties of the job

You will require knowledge of validation and verification processes used within the department and will oversee introduction of new or updated methods within the department.

You will have experience at post-registration level in Quality Management and management of IQC/EQA. The applicant will hold IBMS Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent) and be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience from working at Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) level in their current role.

It is not expected that Senior Biomedical Scientists will participate routinely in out of hours service provision, however you will be required to maintain competencies in all areas and to provide out of hours cover in the short or medium term to cover staff shortage, sickness or other absence.

We are currently reconfiguring the department to incorporate Haematology, Biochemistry and Blood Transfusion as combined Blood Sciences. It is key to the success of this project that all senior staff are on board and keen to work across the disciplines to achieve this.

A wide range of staff benefits are available to our staff including staff development, enrolment in the NHS pension scheme, auto-enrolment to our Temporary Workforce Service, access to onsite nurseries. staff restaurants and accommodation.

In addition to an internal Occupational Health department, all staff also have access to free psychological support through our confidential Employee Assistance Programme. Onsite parking is available from only £50 a year.
