Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player to join our Paediatric Dietetic Team at East Sussex Healthcare Trust.

You will be part of a friendly, supportive, professional team, and will be fully supported to develop your professional skills and areas of special clinical interest. We offer regular supervision and competency training opportunities for your ongoing professional development, along with improving patient care.  Where identified in your appraisal and in line with service development we also have access to post graduate university funding for individual MSc modules for professional development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting a varied paediatric caseload, across a variety of clinical conditions. The paediatric team forms part of our close knit & supportive Dietetic Department that includes over 40 clinicians & associated staff, supporting the specialities of paediatrics, diabetes, intensive care, inpatients, acute rehabilitation, general outpatients & community nutrition support.  The department is also supported by our Primary Care Network (PCN) dietitians and Trainee Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) Dietitians.

Main duties of the job

Upon your successful appointment, you will:

Manage a clinical caseload in various settings, including the paediatric ward, special care baby unit, and outpatient clinics.

Play a key role in developing new resources and improving the paediatric dietetics service.

Attend meetings and training sessions

Support a varied paediatric caseload across a range of clinical conditions.

Receive full support for professional skill development and areas of special clinical interest, including regular supervision and competency training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 This is an exciting & innovative post working within paediatrics between primary & secondary care across East Sussex. Assistance for relocation and support with initial accommodation is available please discuss at interview. There is also pastoral care support available to aid your smooth transition into living in East Sussex and working for ESHT.

This post is maternity cover for a community paediatric post and we would welcome applications from candidates interested in working remotely, hybrid working or those happy to travel to and within East Sussex.

To act as a lead and expert for the team and department concerning paediatrics - specific area to be discussed on appointment. To be responsible for the specialist nutrition and dietetic management of paediatric patients referred for nutritional advice in East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (including assessment and treatment) using specialist knowledge and skills.

To independently manage and treat paediatric patients in the acute and community setting under the supervision of the Lead Paediatric Dietitian.

The paediatric team forms part of our close knit & supportive Dietetic Department that includes over 40 clinicians & associated staff, supporting the specialities of paediatrics, diabetes, intensive care, inpatients, acute rehabilitation, general outpatients & community nutrition support.  The department is also supported by our Primary Care Network (PCN) dietitians & we are also excited to be welcoming our first Trainee Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) Dietitians (Oncology & Integrated Discharge Team) and Dietetic Apprentices into the team in 2023.

 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 4 year degree in Dietetics or equivalent Current State Registration with Health and Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of continued professional development to Masters level or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate training in behavioural change techniques
  • Teaching certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of two years in general dietetic practice and 2 years in a specialist area
  • Undertaking new patient assessment and treatment
  • Conducting patient and other health professional group education
  • Training of student dietitians
  • Computer aided dietary assessment
Desirable criteria
  • Working in a community based setting
  • Working in the area of optimising nutrition prescribing

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of current issues and research relating to dietetics and Sound clinical knowledge based on current best practice
  • In depth knowledge of prescribable paediatric nutritional products, enteral feeds and other dietetic products, medications and drug nutrient interactions
  • Communicate information accurately, effectively and sensitively, both verbal and written
  • Relay sensitive and emotional information to patients
  • Teaching / supervisory skills on a one to one and group basis
  • Good time management to be able to organise and prioritise own clinical caseload and to cope with unpredictable workload patterns to achieve deadlines
  • Ability to travel independently between sites in an efficient and timely manner
