Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Project Manager to join our Estates Property & Project Management Department.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a diverse portfolio of estates and capital developments that directly support the Trust’s clinical and strategic objectives.

Main duties of the job

As Senior Project Manager,  you will be responsible for leading and managing specific capital projects from inception through to completion, ensuring delivery to agreed cost, quality, and time parameters.

You will oversee the day-to-day management of projects, including contractors, consultants, and project budgets, ensuring that all deliverables are achieved within agreed constraints and governance frameworks.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, you will plan, monitor, and control all aspects of projects to ensure cost-effective, timely, and appropriate solutions that support the Trust’s strategic goals and operational requirements.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering / Construction related subject
  • Professional / academic qualification to Masters level or equivalent level of experience of capital development.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant professional or management qualifications e.g. Chartered Status such as RIBA, RICS, CIOB, APM, PMI, etc.
  • Project/Programme Management qualification MSP Practitioner, PRINCE2 Practitioner, PMP, APMP, etc.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Professional background including specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas for at least 5 years: Architecture, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Project Management OR an equivalent level of experience with a minimum of 3 years’ experience delivering capital schemes within the NHS.
  • Significant and proven/demonstrable experience of management, and of practical experience in project management of delivering complex building projects across large complex sites within an acute hospital healthcare environment or similar
  • Significant and proven / demonstrable experience of managing contractors, consultant teams and direct labour staff.
  • Managing multi-disciplinary relationships with stakeholders in a relevant organisational setting.
  • Understanding of the design development process and key RIBA project stages.
  • Demonstrable experience in the commissioning of new facilities including design, specifications, project management and contract administration.
  • Experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Facilitating stakeholder briefing and engagement events.
  • Project budget control and forecasting skills.
  • Understanding of healthcare planning and standards.
  • Proficient in management of formal construction contracts e.g. NEC, JCT.
Desirable criteria
  • Sound knowledge of corporate governance and an understanding of risk management.

  • Ability to communicate technical subjects to non-technical people.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings

  • Knowledge of project and programme management and risk management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of NHS Capital investment Manual.
  • Knowledge of industry standard building construction contracts and ability to effectively manage contractual relationships with contractor and consultants.
  • Knowledge of current planning legislation and building regulations.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS and OJEU procurement regulations and NHS consultant and contractor frameworks.
  • Knowledge of national NHS strategy and policy.
