As a Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology, the successful applicant will share the responsibility for the day-to-day management and co-ordination of the technical activities of  the laboratory with three other Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientists. Together they will be expected to provide training and guidance for staff under their supervision.

The Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientists have responsibility for workflow planning, maintenance of specialised analysers and the authorisation of reports. They are also responsible for the evaluation and introduction of new techniques and act as a source of specialist technical expertise within the laboratory.

Each Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist has a specific area of responsibility within the laboratory. The position being advertised is that of Training Officer. The Training Officer is responsible for the implementation of training at all levels, and for the documentation that supports and records it. This includes the performance of ongoing competency assessments.

Experienced staff satisfying a competency assessment will work - in rotation with other staff -  weekends, bank holidays, late shifts and the out of hours on-call system.
