Rotational Band 6 Clinical Pharmacist.
 
Due to the expansion of our innovative team, we are delighted to offer multiple opportunities for rotational pharmacists. We welcome applications from trainee pharmacists due to qualify in January 2026, newly qualified pharmacists, community pharmacists, and those already working within hospital pharmacy or other sectors. 
 
We are seeking pharmacists who are committed to developing their clinical expertise and leadership skills, with a strong emphasis on patient-centred care. This role offers the chance to collaborate with clinicians across sectors in East Sussex, supporting the advancement of practice and contributing to improved patient outcomes.
 
Progression and development are key priorities for our department. Rotational pharmacists will benefit from experience across a wide range of specialties at both our main hospital sites and community locations, with opportunities to work alongside multi-sector partners, including the local mental health trust. These rotations are designed to support career progression from post-registration Foundation training through to Advanced Level Practice.
 
We also offer structured support for personal and professional growth, including completion of the Newly Qualified Pharmacist Pathway, access to a funded Postgraduate Clinical Certificate in Pharmacy Practice, and future support in gaining an Independent Prescribing qualification.
This post may be based at either Eastbourne District General Hospital or Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

Main duties of the job

The post includes rotations in surgical and medical areas with the potential for cancer services and a mental health rotation within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.  Experience within these areas will build key clinical skills and provide an opportunity to develop into a confident practitioner   with the support of an experienced pharmacy team.

Under the supervision of our specialist Independent Prescribing Pharmacists, you will work closely with consultants, other medical staff, nurses and pharmacy staff in ensuring that medicine use is safe, rational, effective and evidence based 

The post holder will provide a clinical pharmacy service to a group of wards on a rotational basis and support the dispensary in providing an efficient and timely service. The applicant will also need to join the department weekend and on-call service on a rota basis following a period of orientation and induction. The successful candidate will be a Practice Supervisor for Trainee Pharmacists and Pharmacy undergraduates.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Pharmacy) / BPharm / MPharm / OSPAP/ DPharm
  • Registration with the GPhC (Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy (4yrs) and 1 years pre-registration / foundation training and experience)
Desirable criteria
  • Registration with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and/or UKCPA
  • CPD portfolio that demonstrates an ongoing commitment to personal development and progression through post-registration Foundation (one of key objectives for progression)
  • Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or pharmacy practice or other equivalent post-graduate qualification/pathway completion (one of key objectives for progression)
  • Recognised qualification as Practice and/or Educational Supervisor or equivalent role or equivalent experience (one of key objectives for progression)
  • Independent Prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of patient facing practice or evidence of the application of skills/practice that are suitable for foundation to advanced practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working autonomously with clinicians as a clinical pharmacist (one of key objectives for progression)
  • Previous experience in mentoring and training pharmacy staff
  • Experience of carrying out medicines reviews and medicines reconciliation for patients on discharge from hospital
  • Experience in utilising information technology within the workplace including inputting and retrieving information
