Job overview

To perform a range of diagnostic tests & procedures both supervised & unsupervised and assist with the day to day running of the Sleep Laboratory including compliance monitoring and Data collection with on-the-job training and assessment.   To undertake a range of administrative / relevant duties for the sleep studies department.

Main duties of the job

  • Set up, calibrate, and maintain sleep study, CPAP, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform inpatient, sleep lab, and domiciliary sleep studies, including paediatric oximetry.
  • Collate and print sleep study data for consultant review.
  • Assist with CPAP initiation, maintenance, repair, and patient follow‑up clinics.
  • Clean and prepare sensors, test equipment, and download/store diagnostic and compliance data.
  • Maintain and update clinic databases and make appointments as needed.
  • Participate in departmental audits, surveys, and clinical trials.
  • Monitor stock, report equipment faults, and support service development and training requirements.
  • Adhere to Trust policies, complete mandatory training, and engage in appraisal and CPD processes.
  • Take part in shift rotas, including nights and weekends, with patterns subject to change.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as required by the line manager.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general literacy and numeracy skills – English and Maths GCSE or equivalent
  • Science based qualification or other science based qualification
  • NVQ2 in care / relevant subject or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria
  • An interest in obtaining or working towards NVQ Sleep Competencies.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Confident in dealing with the public and or patients
  • Previous experience of working as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Nursing Auxiliary or other Healthcare Assistance experience.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills both verbal and non verbal
  • Good keyboard and IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to take instruction and be self-motivated.
  • Good organisational skills
Desirable criteria
  • Has worked in a medical environment before dealing with patients or public.
