Job overview

We are a small, friendly, and dedicated team committed to providing the highest quality care to our patients. We are now seeking an experienced Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Outpatient Oncology and Haematology Unit on the Judy Beard Day Unit at Conquest Hospital.

Our unit consists of 17 patient treatment chairs/beds, designed to safely deliver and administer Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) and other supportive therapies.

Working pattern:

Secondment / FTE: 0.80 (30hours per week)

Monday to Saturday service — flexibility will be required to meet the needs of the unit.

Main duties of the job

Ideally, you will have:

  • At least two years’ recent and relevant experience within an oncology or haematology setting

  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills to coordinate the day-to-day running of a SACT unit

  • A completed SACT passport

  • The ability and confidence to use clinical expertise and supported decision-making in the safe administration and management of SACT, including recognition and management of side effects

  • The ability or willingness to develop triage skills for cancer patients

  • A passion for providing strong, supportive leadership and promoting a culture of learning and excellence

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC level 1 registration
  • Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development
  • Level 3 mentorship or equivalent
  • Relevant degree
  • SACT Passport
Desirable criteria
  • Additional post-registration training / courses in relevant speciality

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 years post registration experience with a minimum of 18 months at senior staff nurse level or above.
  • Proven recent relevant experience in Oncology/Haematology treatments
  • Supervision and teaching of junior staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with other agencies/MDT

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Skills in venepuncture, cannulation
  • Administration of chemotherapy/Immunotherapy drugs.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and non-verbal
  • Able to educate and support patients, carers and relatives
  • Knowledge of recent NHS legislation and recommendations in the field of cancer.
  • Awareness of changing trends within chemotherapy/Immunotherapy
  • Evidence of research awareness.
Desirable criteria
  • Management of CVAD
