East Sussex Healthcare Trust is offering the opportunity to join our Continuity of Carer Ivy midwifery team and is seeking enthusiastic midwives, passionate about promoting continuity and providing homebirths. Eastbourne and Hastings is on the South East Coast of England with its beautiful seaside towns and villages, a stones through away from the beautiful countryside of the South Downs and Kent. We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and highly motivated midwife to join our continuity team. This is an exciting opportunity for a practitioner who is passionate about delivering high‑quality, personalised, relationship‑based care to a diverse and often vulnerable caseload.

The post holder will work within a continuity of carer model, supporting pregnant people and families throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. You will provide care across a range of settings, including at home, in our birth centre and within the obstetric unit, ensuring safe and seamless care pathways.
You will also provide support within the acute unit as required during periods of escalation.

This role is ideal for a midwife committed to equity, inclusion, enhanced continuity, and supporting people with additional needs or complexities.

A full UK driving license is required and ability to travel independently between sites in timely manner.

Main duties of the job

You will hold a dedicated caseload and provide personalised continuity of care to individuals planning to birth at home as well as those with a range of social, emotional or medical vulnerabilities. Your caseload will include, but is not limited to:

  • Pregnant people planning homebirth
  • Individuals requiring interpreter support
  • Asylum seekers or refugees
  • Those who have experienced a previous stillbirth
  • Families with involvement from children’s services
  • Pregnant people with complex psychosocial circumstances
  • Individuals with severe or enduring mental health needs

You will build trusting relationships that enhance safety, promote choice, and support positive birth experiences—particularly for groups who may experience barriers accessing maternity care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered midwife on the NMC register
  • Ability to undertaken further training
  • Diploma level qualification
  • IT literate
Desirable criteria
  • D32/33 Teaching and clinical assessment (formally ENB 997/998)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 1 years previous clinical experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Demonstrate interest in developing midwifery practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking project work
  • Experience of working in a community setting providing personalised care to patients.
  • Experience of providing labour care in an out of hospital birth setting
  • Experience of virtual communication including the use of Microsoft Teams

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to carry out full range of midwifery practice including extended skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Understanding of the new NHS and the opportunities it offers
