Job overview

Immunisation Programme Assistant (Worthing) -  Part time (Four days, minimum of two days) temporary contract for 4 months, September to December 2025.

An opportunity has arisen for  Band 3 Immunisation Programme Assistant/s to join the SCFT Sussex Immunisation Service.

The role requires core working hours of 8am-4pm,  with flexibility at either end of the day for packing of vaccines or clinic cover on a rota basis. You will also cover one Saturday clinic.

The SCFT Sussex Immunisation Service vaccinates children aged 0-19 years in schools and clinics across East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove. 

This post will be based in Worthing but all team members support the whole of the SCFT Sussex Immunisation Service, so you must be a car owner/driver and be willing to travel daily to clinics and schools within Sussex. 

Please note: Due to recent changes in UK immigration and visa rules, this role is unlikely to be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Applicants who do not currently have the right to work in the UK may not be considered. Main duties of the job

The role will include providing clerical and clinical support in schools, bases, clinics and patients' homes. It is an exciting and varied role, working within a team of nurses, assistants and administrators to deliver vaccination programmes to school aged children and SCFT Staff.

The successful candidate will prepare the documentation and assist with the running of the vaccination sessions and clinics and be expected to accurately process the completed session paperwork.

During this busy flu vaccination period, they will also be involved with giving the flu nasal spray vaccine to School aged children under supervision of a trained health professional. Full training will be given.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will need to demonstrate your familiarity with Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience of data-inputting is preferable but training will be given. Our Service uses an online consent process so IT skills are vital.

The postholder will be required to fulfil reception duties at clinics and are often the first point of contact for patients and their families on the telephone, so an excellent telephone manner and verbal communication skills are important. The ability to communicate well and remain calm at busy school immunisation sessions is essential.

Our patients are our first priority and we strive to offer compassionate care, whilst also working quickly to vaccinate large numbers of children , young people and adults each day. One aspect of the role will be to provide reassurance to children who are feeling anxious about having a vaccination, therefore, experience of working with children and young people would be an advantage.

We welcome applicants who can demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly and co-operatively with colleagues; both within their own team and the wider multidisciplinary teams across the whole SCFT area. We are looking for people who are motivated, conscientious and committed to supporting us to maintain high vaccination coverage across Sussex.

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education (5 GCSEs in-cluding English & Maths or equivalent)
  • RSA3 / NVQ3 in administration or related subject or equivalent experience gained through practice
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • ECDL or equivalent
