Band 6 Practice Educator - Adult and Paediatric - Emergency Department Worthing Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Practice Educator to join the Emergency Department at Worthing Hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. They will work with the Lead Practice Development Nurse (PDN) to ensure the staffing is supporting in their education journey and clinical practice.

We currently see over a 100,000 patients per year, with 25% of patients we see being children. We are also a designated Trauma unit

The Emergency Department consists of 5 adult and 1 Paediatric Resuscitation bays.  30  Major spaces, made up of trolleys and 8 chairs. The ED also has its own mental health area supported by RMNs working closing with the mental health liaison service provided by Sussex Partnership NHS Trust. Worthing ED has a dedicated Paediatric ED, which provides a separate waiting area and a new front door UTC opened in September 2025.

As an outstanding department, we are keen to recruit enthusiastic, motivated nurses, who have excellent communication skills and are able to work in a fast paced and at times challenging environment. Applicants should ideally have a minimum of 1 year ED/acute experience.

Main duties of the job

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria. 

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

 

The post holder will support the Lead Practice Development Nurse to establish and maintain a positive and effective clinical learning environment for both pre and post registered nurses, including overseas nurses and there specific needs.

To proactively promote and deliver evidence based education and support to promote best nursing practice at all times. To ensure nursing staff have both the knowledge and skills to deliver safe, effective, compassionate care competently, aiming for the highest standards possible. Training will primarily be delivered via direct clinical teaching with some classroom/alternative forums as required.

Person specification

Qualifications / Experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Acute care/ ED experience 1 year at least
  • Evidence of quality improvements
  • PSPA/Mentorship
  • Venepuncture & Cannulation
Desirable criteria
  • ED pathway or other relevant courses (internal/external)
  • Evidence of teaching or supporting learners
  • Relevant ED competences, plastering, RCN level 1 Emergency Nursing
  • ALS/PILS/ATLS
