Job overview

This post of Speciality doctor in Medical or Clinical Oncology is part of the cancer team working across East Yorkshire, North-East Lincolnshire and Goole.

We are expanding the number of speciality doctors in the department and recruiting 2 Speciality doctors. It is anticipated that the post will be based within the Queen’s Centre with additional responsibility for caring for patients at Scarborough Hospital and North Lincolnshire Hospital Trust. For work in a peripheral clinic, travelling time is included within the job plan.

Main duties of the job

The candidate may be required to work on any of the Trust’s sites and across the seven day period where necessary. 

The trainees are linked with teams of consultants and specialist grades and specialist registrars (based around site specialisation).

Successful candidates will be expected to support the Trust’s goals for sustainability by encouraging and adopting sustainable ideas and practices.

Essential criteria
  • • Full Registration with the GMC

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • • MRCP Part 1
  • • Valid ALS certificate
Desirable criteria
  • • MRCP
  • • Postgraduate degree: e.g. MD, PhD
  • • Postgraduate qualification in Education or significant experience in post graduate training

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on range of acute medical conditions
  • • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Management and Administration Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to manage and lead medical/surgical teams
  • • Ability to lead on smooth and efficient running of the unit
  • • Ability to organise, prioritise and manage high intensity workload
Desirable criteria
  • • Ability to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/ delivery

Teaching, Audit and Research

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of supervising junior medical staff
  • • Commitment to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students
  • • Evidence of participation in audit
  • • Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care for individual patients
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of having conducted a practice-changing audit
  • • Experience of teaching/ training in clinical courses e.g. IMPACT Course, Faculty, ALS Instructor, ALERT Instructor
  • • Original peer-reviewed research publications

  • • Ability to work flexibly in a changing health service
