Job overview

We are looking for a motivated and highly committed individual to work closely with the team of 8 Consultants within the Department of Urology at Castle Hill Hospital. The Department is a busy tertiary referral cancer centre providing a comprehensive range of urology services.

This is a substantive post with a sub-specialist interest in female and reconstructive urology surgery. It is intended that the post-holder will work within, and continue to develop, the already established female and reconstruction service at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to deliver general urology services to help deliver 2-week wait cancer and 18-week new referral to treatment targets, providing a 1:9 week acute on-call.

Hull was the 2017 UK City of Culture and has a vibrant atmosphere of ambition, innovation and inspiration. The surrounding East Riding of Yorkshire and East Yorkshire coast has outstanding beauty and there are many small and beautiful villages to live in. Close by is the market town of Beverley with its imposing Minster Cathedral.

Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and will be on the Specialist Register on the date of the Appointments Committee.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • FRCS Urol or equivalent
  • Entry on Specialist Register
  • Intercollegiate speciality examination or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate thesis

Clinical experience

Essential criteria
  • Sub-specialist interest in functional urology and incontinence surgery
  • Good experience in general urological surgery. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Urology
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of developing a service to provide specialist functional urology assessment and incontinence surgery
  • Post-CCT surgical fellowship in functional and incontinence surgery.

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of service
  • Ability to organise and manage out patient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to manage and lead specialist unit, surgical directorate and working parties as appropriate
  • Experience of audit management/ Clinical Governance

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supervising FY1/2 , CT and ST trainee
  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Experience of current assessment methods eg appraisal, DOPS and mini-cex and case based discussion

  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GP’s nurses and other agencies

  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
