Base: Hull Royal Infirmary, HULL 

1 Full time (37.5 hours per week) post to work between Hull, East Riding, North and North East Lincolnshire, based primarily in Hull.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated person to join the Humber Diabetic Eye Screening Programme as Retinal Screener/Grader. The successful applicant will work within the grading team and be responsible for grading patient retinal images and providing screening clinic support as required. The grading role will include ongoing Test and Train assessments and keeping up to date with the latest pathway changes and national guidance. Attention to detail is vital and the ability to follow strict information governance procedures.

The successful applicant needs be able to confidently and competently work under pressure dealing with a large workload with great accuracy. Excellent teamwork is required within a small grading team and the ability to support and feedback to the retinal screeners is essential. A friendly manner with patients is essential during the screening process with knowledge of how to care for patients with mobility or health issues.

Please note that this advertised vacancy does not meet the UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa and therefore HUTH would not be able to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for this role

Main duties of the job

The post holder would need to have experience of working as a trained retinal screener within a retinal screening environment and must have completed the City and Guilds screener qualification/ or working towards the Health Screener Diploma

The trust is undergoing service transformations and review, therefore there may be a requirement in future for weekend work.

The post is an excellent opportunity to join an award-nominated, efficient and cost effective department that focuses on developing its personnel whilst providing excellent quality patient care.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills, together with an ability to prioritise workload and work flexibly under pressure to achieve deadlines. Experience of the NHS and working within a Retinal Screening Programme as a Retinal Screener is essential.

The successful candidate must hold a current and full manual driving license and will be expected to undertake a trust driving assessment.

Essential criteria
  • GCSE level grades A-C in Maths and English Language or equivalent or relevant experience
