Job overview

This is a great opportunity to build your clinical skills while supporting patients who need safe and timely blood tests.
You’ll be part of a supportive nursing team, working closely with colleagues across our GP practices. Your work will help patients feel reassured and well‑informed, and will ensure samples are taken safely and processed accurately. You will play an important part in maintaining high standards of care, communication and infection prevention.
What you’ll do:
  • Prepare patients, check identity and obtain high‑quality blood samples
  • Communicate clearly with patients, carers and colleagues
  • Recognise and escalate any concerns about a patient’s wellbeing
  • Record information accurately in the Electronic Patient Record
  • Maintain clean, safe clinical areas and support stock and equipment checks
 

Main duties of the job

What we’re looking for:
  • Basic phlebotomy training and Level 2 Health and Social Care (or equivalent experience)
  • Understanding of confidentiality, infection control and safe working practices
  • Good communication skills and confidence interacting with patients
  • Ability to organise your workload and use basic IT systems
  • Willingness to work flexibly and contribute to service improvements

Essential criteria
  • Level 2 in Health and Social care or able to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge, skill and experience
  • Care Certificate or willingness to work towards this as part of the induction process
  • Basic Phlebotomy training

Knowledge

  • Understanding of confidentiality in the context of Health and Social Care
  • Experience prioritising own work
  • Understanding of basic IT
