Main duties of the job

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse (RGN) or diploma in nursing studies
  • Certificate in the care & treatment of patients with chronic disease
  • Additional post registration NMC qualification
  • Diplomas or equivalent qualification in one or more of the following; diabetes, respiratory medicine, coronary heart disease
  • Cervical smear and breast awareness course
Desirable criteria
  • Sexual health training
  • V150 Non-medical prescriber
  • V300 Non-medical prescriber (for development)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Modernisation Agenda
  • Evidence based practice
  • Good standard of numeracy and literacy
  • Computer literate
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Use of Clinical System - Systm1/Adastra/Odyssey/Emis/Vision
  • Foreign travel health advice
Desirable criteria
  • GMS2 Contract or APMS contract
  • Sexual health, family planning and contraception advice
  • Health promotion

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration nursing experience
  • Demonstrate competency in a wide range of skills including phlebotomy, wound care, health promotion
  • Caseload management skills including planning, treatment and influencing
  • Clinical supervision
  • Experience of managing patients with chronic disease or long term conditions
  • Basic health and safety awareness
  • Presentation skills
  • Dealing with foreign or non-English speaking patients
  • Using a computerised clinical information system
  • Experience of working with different agencies – voluntary/statutory
  • Smear taking/breast awareness skills
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship
  • Counselling skills
  • Carrying out clinical audits
