Hull University Teaching Hospitals (HUTH) are seeking a Band 6 Specialist Acute Medicine Dietitian to join our diverse team. The post holder will gain experience working in a large busy acute teaching trust.
The post holder will work alongside colleagues within the Older People and Medicine dietetic team to support the timely delivery of nutritional intervention for those admitted to the new intermediate care suite for those who are considered 'no criteria to reside'. in hospital.
We are seeking someone who can adapt to a changing environment and work well within a team. You will be expected to be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and build social networks working in partnership with other agencies.
Main duties of the job
You must be a registered dietitian that has suitable previous experience working with complex patients and building links to community services.
The role will require the post holder to undertake nutritional assessment and treatment of patients who may have highly complex and/or chronic presentation and work closely with other members of the ward multidisciplinary teams (MDT). This will include attendance where required at best interest meetings, ward rounds, MDT meetings and service improvement meetings (such as clinical governance).
The dietetics department offers various development opportunities and can provide additional training.

- BSc or Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
- HCPC Registration

- Post‑registration or postgraduate training relevant to acute or specialist dietetics
- Clinical Supervisory Skills Course
- Evidence of Masters‑level study or equivalent learning
- Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA)
Knowledge, Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post‑registration experience delivering dietetic care in an acute hospital setting
- Experience of managing patients with complex nutritional and medical needs
- Ability to undertake comprehensive nutritional assessment, including interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition, diet history and medications
- Experience of developing and implementing evidence‑based dietetic treatment plans
- Knowledge of enteral nutrition and experience supporting patients requiring tube feeding
- Understanding of professional ethics, consent and capacity, and legal frameworks relevant to clinical practice
- Evidence of ongoing CPD
- Experience of working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to prioritise and manage a complex clinical caseload in a busy environment
- Experience of contributing to audit, service evaluation or quality improvement activity
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supervising/ mentoring junior staff, dietetic assistants and students.
- Completion of specialist training such as PENG or equivalent
- Experience of supervising or mentoring junior staff, support workers or students
- Experience of research/ audit, contributing to service development, guideline development or pathway redesign
Communication and Interpersonal Skills

- Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers and professionals
- Demonstrates advanced verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use behaviour‑change and motivational interviewing techniques
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

- Ability to document clinical care clearly and accurately in electronic patient records

- Experience delivering education or training to staff, students or patient groups
