Main duties of the job

This role encompasses the management of both community and our midwifery led unit.  

The midwifery practice lead is responsible for the effective management of the ward over the 24-hour period. They will monitor and maintain standards of professional practice, and will supervise, lead, direct and deploy the team to ensure that standards of care are met. Acting as a role model and advocate for women, birthing partners and midwives, and working as part of the senior midwifery team, the post holder will contribute to the future development of the maternity service through participation in quality improvement and development initiatives.

 

The post holder will be expected to work three days managerial and two days clinically per week to provide both clinical and managerial support for their staff.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife with current NMC Registration
  • First Level Degree in related healthcare discipline or substantial experiential equivalence
  • Evidence of learning beyond registration evidenced by relevant professional portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Master’s qualification in relevant discipline or working towards one
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate
  • Leadership qualification
  • NIPE qualification

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continuous professional development relevant to the post
  • Previous recent experience, of a senior midwifery role
  • Understanding of Local Maternity Systems and Maternity
  • Transformation programme Experienced in interpreting national guidance into local action
  • Must be able to provide a portfolio of clinical/managerial experience
Desirable criteria
  • Change management skills
  • Proven track record of partnership working
  • Direct Line management experience
  • Experience of working at a large acute NHS Trust
