An exciting  new position within the Vascular team has arisen to support patients through their venous surgical  pathway.

The post holder will have daily responsibility for the clinical care that venous patients receive. The role is intended to support patients at all stages in their care including assisting in the further development of the above nurse led appointments.

There is an existing team of clinical academic nurse specialists with whom the appointed individual will work closely and (with training) cross cover for other nurse led services could be developed. There is significant future potential for increasingly independent practice within the department.  We would support individulas with both opportunities and resources to pursue formal post graduate qualification in advanced areas of practice relevant to the post.

Main duties of the job

         Triage referrals to and administer Nurse led clinics for primary superficial venous insufficiency (varicose veins) – Clinics will be supported by both sonographers and vascular surgeons, the successful appointee will determine which referrals are suitable for review and then be responsible for Clinical history and assesment of patients, discussion of scan results and possible surgical intervention options.

       Provide clear and concise information to patients and their families about the surgical procedure, pre- and post-operative care, and potential risks. Following a training period it is the intention that the appointed individual will be capable of independent clinics once full confidence and competence have been achieved. 

 Liason with surgeons, admin teams and patients / carers to ensure appropriate booking of theatre lists for venous interventions. The appointed individual will support these lists with the intention to progress to assisting in venous procedures in the longer term. 

        Co-ordinate patient initiated follow up and booked pathways – acting as a central point of contact for patients post procedure. The appointed individual will field calls from patients to ensure and queries are answered and arrange clinical review and escalation of care as appropriate to patient needs.
