Speech & Language Therapy Assistant Practitioner

Band 4

Job overview

We have a new,  exciting opportunity for an experienced assistant to work within our speech and language therapy team. You will be based at Hull Royal Infirmary, supporting the speech and language therapists and working with in-patients on the stroke and neurology wards.

You will be provided with on-the-job training and support to enhance and develop competencies working with patients who have both communication and swallowing difficulties.

Please note, this post may also be offered at Band 3 with progression to Band 4, on completion of appropriate specialist competencies relevant to the role.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant Practitioner is to support the assessment and delivery of speech and language therapy to patients on the Stroke Unit.  The Speech and Language Therapy Assistant Practitioner will work autonomously under the supervision of registered Speech and Language Therapists and will be responsible for an agreed clinical caseload.

The post holder will carry the responsibility for a defined caseload of patients and will offer support to the wider speech and language therapy team and liaison with the multidisciplinary team, with a focus on Stroke and Neurology caseloads.

Working for our organisation

The Humber Health Partnership is one of the largest acute and community Partnership arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.

Made up of two Trusts - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) - our Partnership has significant ambitions and is committed to delivering world-class hospital and community services for the 1.65 million people we serve.

Together we employ nearly 20,000 staff. Our five main hospital sites are Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital, for NLAG and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.

As Teaching Hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas - biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery and oncology.
