Qualifications and Training

Postgraduate degree: e.g. MD, PHD
MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
PGC in appropriate subjects
Qualification in duplex ultrasound
Intercollegiate speciality examination or equivalent
Masters in appropriate subjects

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria

Completion of Foundation competencies or equivalent
Postgraduate experience in Vascular or General Surgery or Endovascular intervention
12 months NHS experience

Desirable criteria

Basic Surgical Skills completion
Advanced operative Vascular and Endovascular skills course completion
cCRISP completion
ATLS completion

Management and Administration Experience

Essential criteria

Ability to manage own time efficiently and effectively
Experience of audit management/Clinical Governance
Understanding of risk management and safe working practices
Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
Ability to manage and lead Foundation and core trainees with support

Desirable criteria

Formal training and qualifications in management, leadership and governance

Teaching, Audit and Research

Essential criteria

Experience of supervising junior medical staff
Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates

Remote developmental histories and child observations (via video calls)
Peer MDT diagnostic decision-making, with the support of the senior clinical MDT where required
Tech-enabled outcome report writing
Outcome calls with parents and families (via video call)

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
