Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a number of band 6 Specialist Practitioners to join our Mental Health Crisis Intervention Team to support service development.
We are a 24/7 Crisis and Home Based Treatment service for adults aged 18-64 (and their families and carers) living in Hull and East Riding who are experiencing an acute mental health crisis. We provide crisis assessment and Home Based Treatment Interventions, gatekeeping for inpatient admissions, coordinate and manage the section 136 suite/Mental Health Based Place of Safety pathway at Miranda House and the 111 option 2 Urgent phone line. Our work is diverse, fast paced and clinically rich.
We work closely with our many partner agencies including Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Humberside Police, Secondary, Primary and voluntary care providers and collaboratively with families and carers.
We are seeking professionals with a Mental Health or Learning disability nursing registration or social worker with experience of working within the specialism of Mental Health and we are looking for professionals who are keen to lead on innovation, developing robust care pathways and enhance the patient and carer experience.
Main duties of the job
The main features of this role include the assessment of Service Users in Crisis, leading on crisis assessments and decision making with onward referring to appropriate teams, planning interventions, delivering a variety of Acute Crisis interventions, whilst reviewing care and planning for discharge. You will be working within an Multi Disciplinary Team maintaining quality standards and patient safety, within a framework of clinical governance.
You will also work as the shift coordinator when designated to this role, supervise junior staff and support the ongoing development of the team with all team members.
We are seeking individuals who are motivated, enthusiastic and have experience of working with people who have complex needs and enduring mental illness. This role requires good organisational skills, being able to demonstrate an ability to prioritise and delegate work effectively, and an interest or specialism in urgent and emergency mental health care, providing expert clinical advice and support and provide leadership and guidance on shift.
We are a 24/7 service therefore patterns of duties include days, evenings, weekend's, nights and bank holidays.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Use of specialist knowledge and experience acquired in a relevant setting underpinned by theory
- A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical practice and service
- Diploma or Degree in Professional qualification equivalent to RMN, Registered Social worker, OT or equivalent AHP
- Registration with the HCPC/NMC or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications at an advanced level e.g. degree or post graduate level or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning
Experience
Essential criteria
- Completed preceptorship programme
- Appropriate knowledge/experience of working in the relevant service area or similar
- Evidence of development of specialist practice nursing skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area
- Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation
Skills and Competencies

- Able to demonstrate effective inter-personal/communication skills
- Work within the culture of improving working lives and working time directive
- Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
