Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for experienced Senior Cardiothoracic Anaesthetic Clinical Fellow to join our Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia Team.

One role would be mainly ITU based and the other two roles will be looking after patients requiring Level 2 and Level 3 support following Cardiothoracic Surgery or Cardiological procedures in ITU.

Surgical work includes not only routine bypass grafts and valves but also complex aortic mitral and pulmonary procedures, and minimally invasive cardiac surgery.

You will be required to participate in one of the department’s on call rotas depending on the gap being filled and your theatre days will mostly be worked in theatres supporting consultants and specialty doctors. This can be in both elective and emergency theatres and working with cardio-thoracic.

As an employee of the Trust the post holder will work in close co-operation with all departments and other medical, professional and managerial colleagues to provide high quality healthcare to the trust’s patients

Main duties of the job

Your role involves providing a supervised (direct and indirect) Anaesthetic service, with responsibility for continuity of care for patients on the Cardiac ITU, to be guided by consultant Anaesthetists in providing evidence- based standards of care for all patients and pre-assessing all patients prior to anaesthesia and reviewing patients post-operative in recovery or on the wards when required.

You will assess and examine ITU admissions and attending ITU ward rounds, ensuring that patients are issued with a discharge note from the ITU, be a member of the resuscitation team and order tests and obtain results of these

Your role will be to maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work with other specialties working closely and regularly with the Anesthetics services on all sites, to support the governance process at clinical, managerial and medical levels and to take part in regional audit in support of evidence-based medicine, to give advice, support and training to all junior medical staff in medical wards and to take part in continuing medical education activities.

There will also be a commitment to post-graduation teaching of both F1’s and SHO’s in other departments.

Working for our organisation

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well-being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
