Job overview

Are you wanting to pursue a career in Cardiology nursing practice? We are looking for a forward thinking proactive Staff Nurse to join us on Roding Ward. Roding Ward is our Cardiac Care Unit that incorporating a high dependency unit for patients requiring acute cardiology care  

We welcome applications from current Staff Nurses and Student Nurses with an interest in Cardiology who have completed a cardiology placement. 

Roding Ward is based in the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre on the Basildon Hospital site and is the base for the Essex Heart Attack Service covering Essex, Suffolk and London borders.  

It is an exciting area to work, managing patients requiring cardiac intervention procedures, device implants and arrhythmia management.

Main duties of the job

In your new role you will have the unique opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in a supportive environment with a dedicated practice facilitator in post as part of the established ward team.

The cardiac centre has also devised its own development program supporting nurses, new  to cardiology, making opportunities available to you to undertake further studies within the trust and the affiliated university.

Your role will be to provide and maintain the highest possible standard of nursing care for the patients and their families by ensuring that an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the patients.

You will be assessing, developing and implementing patient care plans whilst evaluating care given, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately, and giving and receiving patient centred handovers.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st or 2nd level registration
  • Student nurse due to complete nurse training within 12 months
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration experience within coronary care/cardiology or acute medicine setting.
  • IV competencies
  • Placement as a student nurse in coronary care/cardiology or ED setting
  • Post registration professional development

Other

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of literacy - demonstrated through minimal spelling and grammatical errors on application
  • Good supportive evidence including current experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Interest in all aspects of cardiology nursing.
  • Evidence of working in multidisciplinary team/acute ward setting
  • Evidence of clinical knowledge/clinical skills
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of career development i.e. enhanced skills/further study
  • Evidence of supporting other staff i.e. mentorship/supervision
