Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend.

We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation determined to provide the best health care services for our local population and working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Clinical Fellow to join our Cardiology team  at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in Basildon.

If successful, you will be joining a team of 9 other specialist trainee registrars, and you will help deliver high quality care to inpatients, inter-hospital transfer patients and outpatients who require tertiary cardiology services.

The post would ideally suit a candidate who has experience as a cardiology registrar and can manage acute cardiac emergencies, is trained in transthoracic echocardiography and can communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team including the consultant leading the team.

So, if this sounds like the right role for you, please apply today.

Main duties of the job

  • The successful candidate will participate on a 1 in 10 rota to cover the daytime care of patients on the ward and hold the bleep for referrals.
  • The successful candidate will participate on a 1 in 10 rota to cover evening / overnight care of patients on the ward, hold the bleep for referrals, and assist in the cardiac catheter lab for patients requiring emergency invasive therapies.
  • Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings will be expected.
  • Participation in recruitment and data management for clinical trials/audit projects.
  • Where gaps appear in the specialist trainee registrar weekly timetable, there may be opportunity to gain experience in cardiac imaging, coronary intervention, cardiac device implantation and cardiac electrophysiology

Working for our organisation

With a workforce of approximately 15,000 staff, we can now do more and go further in delivering health services to our local communities.

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and wellbeing of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

Patients will experience improved care as well as fewer delays and cancellations.  We are able to provide more once-in-a-lifetime specialist care region-wide. With our new trust size will come more opportunities for development, research, networking and innovation.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust.
