Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

 

Job overview

Cardiac Cath Lab  
The majority of the workload of this unit is for day case cardiology patients but the service  does cover urgent inpatient work if required. . Procedures performed include: pre assessment for cardiac catheterisation, Complex Device and Bradycardia permanent 
pacing, external cardioversion, trans-oesophageal echocardiography and stress echocardiography.  


Out-Patient Clinic  
Cardiology out-patients are seen in either in the main Hospital or within CTC. Current set up for outpatient services is a mixture of face to face or virtual clinics.  The facility within the CTC is shared with the Physiologists and Nursing teams. The echocardiogram service along with pacing and Rapid Access Chest Pain clinic are also located within this clinical area. 

Main duties of the job

• To take part in the cardiology on call medical rota on a weekly basis.

 

• To take part in the Cardiology weekend on call rota 1:4 basis

 

• To participate and conduct 3-4 outpatient clinics each week.

 

• 3 to 4 training/ service sessions of cardiac procedures per week. Comprehensive training will be provided in echocardiography and pacing and/or invasive coronary angiography.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Completed 4 years full time post graduate training (or equivalent if part time) at least 2 of which shall be in a specialty training programme in the specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team.
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and experience of supervising undergraduates, junior doctors and other staff.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
