Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overview
The Matron will have a highly visible, accessible, and authoritative presence in the clinical areas to which patients, their families and others can turn to for assistance, advice and support.
Work in partnership with Lead Clinician of Critical Care, Service Manager and Head of Professions and Quality Critical Care to develop and lead the Critical Care Services
Main duties of the job
Acts as an expert resource to own area when assessing Critical Care patients.
To be an expert Critical Care qualified nurse.
Provides clinical and managerial supervision to senior nursing staff in Critical Care and act as mentor and coach to other nurses across the Trust, as appropriate.
To provide a visible leadership presence in all clinical areas, be highly accessible to staff, helping them develop the skills needed to set and maintain high clinical standards.
In partnership with senior nursing staff, develop and implement specialist departmental nursing policies, ensuring staff are compliant in their use.
Support the Director of Nursing in the development of the Nursing Vision & Strategy.
Deputise for the Divisional Head of Nursing as appropriate.
To attend regular bed meetings, providing data to ensure timely management of patient flow. Respond appropriately in times of crisis and during major incidents.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse on part 1 of the NMC Register.
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience
- Post-registration qualification in Intensive Care (ENB 100 or equivalent)
- Masters Degree or evidence of relevant study at level 7 Evidence of recent study at Masters/Degree level
- ENB, MIPS or Mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
- Management/Leader ship qualification
- Evidence of recent study at Masters/Degree level
Experience
Essential criteria
- Expert knowledge of clinical practice in intensive care nursing and demonstrable knowledge of own development in nursing policy and practise
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience as Matron
