Job overview

Are you an experienced neonatal nurse looking for a new challenge? This role offers the opportunity to provide visible and accessible leadership, ensuring the highest quality patient experience while upholding NMC standards and Trust policies. You will play a key part in supporting staff morale and fostering a positive learning environment, helping neonatal teams identify and implement improvements in patient care. The post involves delivering and facilitating teaching, practice development, and professional learning for both nursing and medical staff, while offering ongoing professional guidance and support. You will champion innovation in care, contribute to the development and auditing of clinical guidelines, and work closely with the management team and neonatal nurses to ensure strong governance, training, and education processes across the unit.

Main duties of the job

As a Neonatal Practice Development Nurse, you will provide visible, supportive leadership that enhances the quality of care and strengthens staff confidence across the neonatal unit. Your role will focus on developing the clinical skills, knowledge, and competencies of nursing and medical staff through high‑quality teaching, practice development, and professional learning initiatives. You will work closely with the management team to uphold excellent patient experience, support governance processes, and ensure robust training and education systems are in place. Key responsibilities include guiding staff in identifying and improving standards of care, offering expert professional advice, supporting innovation in clinical practice, and contributing to the development, implementation, and auditing of clinical guidelines. To succeed in this role, you will need strong leadership skills, advanced neonatal clinical expertise, excellent communication abilities, a commitment to education and professional development, and the ability to inspire confidence while maintaining high visibility and accessibility within the clinical environment.
