Cancer Nurse Specialist

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Gynaecology Diagnostic  Clinical Nurse Specialist on a fixed term (6-month) full time.

 The aim is to provide comprehensive nursing support to Gynaecological patients in line with the broad aims of the NHS Cancer Plan through:- 

Asses, plan, implement and evaluate of care as an autonomous practitioner with specialist skills.. Educate and Train patients and teams. .  Be able to perform and lead on Research and Audit. 

This post  will include working within  Basildon Hospital and Thurrock Community Hospital. A full UK Driving Licence is required for this role.

Main duties of the job

Communicating very sensitive condition related information to patients and relatives, requiring high levels of empathy and reassurance.

Keep accurate patient records and ensure the patient pathway is co-ordinated and targets met. 

Attend MDT meetings. 

Undertake surveys or audits in own speciality

Support the implementation of research and audit findings

Coordinate clinical and support services relevant to patients.

Record concisely, accurately, confidentially and legibly the appropriate elements of history, results of investigations

Interpret results of complex patient investigations, discuss and liaise with colleagues to plan treatment options

Organise own specialist workload, including education & training being able to flexibly respond to changing situations

Provision of care through screening programmes, nurse-led clinics, accepting referrals, undertaking diagnostic procedures, undertaking therapeutic procedures, physical assessments and obtaining written consent to treatment

Referring patients directly to specialists in other professions

Providing expert specialist clinical advice for patients, carers and health care professionals
