Research Finance Coordinator

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

 

Job overview

To initiate, lead, monitor and manage the financial aspects of clinical research studies that are delivered across MSEFT.

You will assist the Research Approvals Managers in assessing the ongoing financial suitability of proposed clinical research studies, by  providing regular and ad hoc reports of actual against budgeted financial performance, as well as forecasting and ongoing monitoring of variances.  

Advise researchers about research funding processes, including the MSEFT Research Income Distribution policy, providing financial data /reports as requested. 

Main duties of the job

The Research Finance Coordinator will be the first point of contact for research funders and Sponsors with finance queries and will be responsible for the invoicing of all appropriate studies, making sure 
that income is recovered in a timely manner and distributed according to Trust policy in a timely manner. 

You will support, develop and line manage the Research Finance Assistant. 

We  require a self-motivated, pro-active individual with a structured and methodical approach to problem solving and excellent analytical, technical and interpersonal skills with the ability to prioritise and manage workload to meet deadlines.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in relevant subject area

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant knowledge of research processes and procedures
  • Experience of financial management (budgets, invoicing, account tracking and reconciliation)
  • Ability to analyse data and produce clear, concise reports
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable knowledge of NIHR research network and key performance indicators/metrics
  • Experience of working in healthcare or other large public sector organisation
