Job overview

Provide's Physiotherapy service delivers NHS contracted musculoskeletal physiotherapy to service users in Mid Essex and the role is eligible for NHS pension including terms and conditions.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic senior Physiotherapist to join our MSK department based across three sites; Chelmsford, Braintree and Maldon in Essex.  The successful candidate will be required to manage their own workload effectively, delivering safe high-quality patient care as well undertake service development projects and audits. The candidate will need to demonstrate good communication, time management and organisational skills with ability to work effectively as part of a team. 

The conditions and caseloads are varied and include both GP and consultant referrals for children and adults, as well as self-referral. We have a range of skilled clinicians including Advance Practice Physiotherapists and numerous band 7 physiotherapists that successful candidates will work alongside. The team has regular in-service training and an opportunities for funding of external courses.

Main duties of the job

Undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients using investigative and analytical skills and formulate individualised management plans, mutually agreed goals and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options to develop a programme of care.

 Undertake a clinical role in the triage, assessment, treatment and ongoing management of patients within the outpatient department.  Develop specialist level knowledge in appropriate discrete areas.

 Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to prioritising according to risk and use of time.

Communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise potential and ensure understanding of their condition and rehabilitation processes.  Many aspects of communication will be required including persuasion, explanation, motivation, empathy and defusing sensitive and stressful situations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Professional

  • Comply with professional standards of practice in accordance with professional body.
  • Be responsible for the effective selection and use of all treatment resources.
  • Maintain own clinical and professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of changes and developments in clinical practice and incorporate into the workplace.
  • Be an active member of the in-service training programme by attendance, and presentation at staff meetings, training sessions, external courses and through reflective practice.
  • Participate in the Provide’s appraisal programme and develop own personal development plan in collaboration with Band 7 Physiotherapist.
  • Assist in the appraisal of junior staff and physiotherapy assistants as agreed with Band 7 Physiotherapist and assist these staff in the development of their own personal development plans.
  • Participate in formal supervision with Band 7 Physiotherapist.
  • Provide support and clinical supervision of junior staff and physiotherapy assistants as required.
  • Under supervision of the Team Lead - undertake delegated areas of line management for Band 5, Therapy Assistant and Administrative staff where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the measurement and evaluation of work and current practices through evidence based practice, audit and the use of outcome measures, either individually or with team members.
  • Maintain good working relationships with other disciplines and non-NHS agencies in the best interest of the patient.
  • Assist the Team Lead Therapist to monitor the changing needs of the service and temporarily deputise in times of absence.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HPC Registered Physiotherapist Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate validated training in appropriate field

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 18 months postgraduate experience as a physiotherapist with some NHS experience
  • Physiotherapy knowledge and experience in musculoskeletal, neurology, Orthopaedics and elderly care specialities
  • Knowledge of the Primary Care and healthcare services within the Community
  • Understanding of the audit process
