Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Are you a dedicated, compassionate and skilled Paediatric Nurse seeking a fulfilling career within an innovative trust? Would you like to work with a passionate team who strive to deliver care to paediatric patients in the Mid Essex area?
Within paediatrics you will find a wide range of ages as we care for children from birth until their 16th Birthday with a mix of specialities. This includes Paediatrics, Plastics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Maxilla Facial and Ears Nose and Throat to name a few.
As part of the team you are supported by a range of clinical nurse specialists including Asthma and Allergy, Epilepsy and Oncology. There is also a team of practice facilitators who support the staff with training and development.
We also have a Paediatric Assessment Unit based on the ward and the teams within paediatric departments work closely together. This includes the Paediatric Assessment Unit Phoenix Ward and Paediatric Emergency Department.
As a member of the team you will form a part of the multi-disciplinary team who strive to deliver the best care to our patients and their family.
As part of your role;
You will provide a high standard of individualised care to patients, whilst maintaining at all times their privacy and dignity.
Assess care needs, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
Contribute to supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
Support the maintenance of high standards of cleanliness in their own clinical area.
Main duties of the job
Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document, holistic, high quality and individualised family centred care which respects babies and their families personal dignity and beliefs.
Maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Maintain and promote effective communication within the care team and with colleagues, parents/carers, relatives and visitors
Act as a mentor to students and preceptor to newly qualified staff.
To participate and contribute to teaching and assessing of newly qualified staff and students, upholding the philosophy of evidence based practice.
To facilitate the development of all staff.
Assist in the management of the ward budget and ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained.
To co-ordinate the ward / department for a span of duty in the absence of a more senior nurse and take responsibility for reporting to the Matron any adverse events or situations which may affect the ability of the team to provide safe and effective care to the patients.
Is proactive in the continuing development of the family centred care environment.
Maintain a professional profile and develop skills, knowledge and competencies adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust Policies and Procedures

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will deliver high‑quality, compassionate nursing care in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and all Trust policies, ensuring every patient receives personalised support that meets their physical, social and psychological needs. They will communicate clearly and work collaboratively with patients, families, carers, nursing colleagues and the wider multi‑disciplinary team to ensure care is safe, effective and consistently well‑coordinated.
In supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, the post holder will help to maintain, improve and develop excellent standards of patient care, promoting privacy, dignity and respect at all times. They will play an active role in delivering Trust nursing, midwifery and patient experience initiatives, while ensuring practice remains aligned with current clinical evidence, audit findings and research developments.
The post holder will champion the Essence of Care Framework, contributing to its local implementation and helping to embed best practice across the unit. They will also support Nurse‑Led Discharge, working efficiently to discharge or transfer medically fit patients to appropriate settings, helping to maintain patient flow and ensure a positive experience for all service users.
