We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation determined to provide the best health care services for our local population and working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

The Paediatric Department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Paediatric Nurse to join our team. We are looking for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to work across our Paediatric Assessment Unit and Paediatric A&E Department. We are looking for individuals who have  passion and drive to provide excellent patient care for all children 0-16 and their families.

The Paediatric Assessment unit is the central HUB for ENT and trauma (Plastics and Max fax) located within Phoenix ward which is a 24 hour facility for the assessment and treatment of children who require urgent paediatric care. The unit is staffed by an experienced senior nursing team and staff progression is actively encouraged.  There are eight beds, two triage rooms, a PAU treatment room and a PAU waiting room. The unit works closely with Paediatric A&E and the post holder will get the opportunity to rotate across the units.

Please be aware this may close early due to the number of applications.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for the effective running of the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) and will have the opportunity to develop skills to support Paediatric A&E. PAU is a busy area with conflicting demands. The successful applicant will be supported by the Band 7 team, clinical practice educators and paediatric matron, this is an exciting opportunity to enhance skills and abilities in caring for children presenting with medical and surgical emergencies.

Working alongside the nursing staff we are lucky to have a team of Play Specialists and Nursery Nurses that are invaluable in helping both patients and parents through procedures.

Your development will be supported by three dedicated clinical practice educators who offer valuable education opportunities under the guidance of a mentor as part of the team.
