Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist to join the team at Broomfield Hospital on a rotational basis.

 You will be part of an agile, friendly, highly motivated team of therapists working within multidisciplinary teams delivering rehabilitation and discharge planning for our inpatient adult population. 

Our 6 month rotations include Orthopaedics -incl both Trauma and Elective (Broomfield/Braintree Community Hospital), Emergency Floor – incl A&E and Frailty, Stroke, Respiratory and Surgery -incl Amputee outpatients, Elderly Care and Specialist Medicine.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for the provision of physiotherapy in the acute setting; excellent communication skills, and a desire to grow and develop people and services around them.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will independently assess and manage your own patient caseload as an autonomous practitioner, ensuring high‑quality communication and accurate documentation while working closely with the multidisciplinary team. You will provide specialist Physiotherapy treatment within your designated clinical area, using your expertise to deliver personalised, evidence‑based care. A strong commitment to ongoing professional development is essential, as you continue to build your skills and clinical knowledge.

You will play an important role in supervising, teaching and supporting junior staff, therapy assistants and Physiotherapy students, helping to shape the next generation of clinicians. You may also contribute to departmental audit and research, supporting service improvement and the development of best practice.

As part of Mid and South Essex, Broomfield Hospital offers a dynamic and forward‑thinking environment with a highly regarded, integrated Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Therapy Assistant service. You will bring experience of working in an acute hospital, confidently managing complex discharges and using advanced assessment and problem‑solving skills. Supervision responsibilities form a key part of this post, supported by a friendly and collaborative Therapy Services department committed to staff development, regular clinical supervision, rotational opportunities and annual appraisal

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Graduate diploma or degree in physiotherapy
  • HCPC registered as an physiotherapist
Desirable criteria
  • Member of CSP or equivalent professional body

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of post graduate learning relevant to work area, to diploma or equivalent specialist level, demonstrated by, for example: patient care activity, CPD portfolio, inservice teaching.
  • Relevant post graduate, physiotherapy experience working in an acute hospital or intermediate care setting.
  • Demonstration of the ability to manage a full caseload with minimal support.
  • Understanding of the changes within the NHS and Implications of relevant NSF's and NICE guidelines
  • Specialist current knowledge and treatment skills relevant to the specialist area evidenced through CPD and a commitment to evidenced based practice
  • Broad range of clinical experience at junior level including respiratory/ITU rotations
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within in a multidisciplinary team in an acute hospital setting
  • Experience of supervising physiotherapy students
  • Experience of teaching

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Ability to write concise clear reports in English
