Are you a highly experienced Biochemistry Biomedical Scientist looking for your managerial step in your career? Are you passionate about developing and improving pathology services to provide efficient and effective services to patients?
Colchester Hospital are looking for a Biochemistry Laboratory Manager to manage the Biochemistry staff and coordinate the day to day activities within our UKAS accredited laboratory. The Biochemistry laboratory has high-volume automation from Roche Diagnostics and the LIMS EPIC Beaker
You must be confident and motivated and possess a wide range of skills demonstrating excellent leadership and training and management of junior staff. You will have good knowledge of the medical laboratory accreditation standards to ensure the department maintains accreditation and meets regulatory compliance.

Main duties of the job
- Responsible as lead Healthcare scientist for Biochemistry
- Manages and coordinate the day to day activities of the Biochemistry
- Leads on service improvement
- Process highly specialist investigations and responsible for standard and quality of results of the service.
- Provide expert advice, opinions training to own and other professions in specialist area of activity.
- Provide specialist training and manage team training for Biochemistry and Specimen Reception working with the Training Lead.
- Deputise for the Service Manager in all aspects of their role including human resources, finance and Health and Safety.
- Maintain and promote professional image of the pathology department.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Highly specialist knowledge and experience in a specialised analytical or clinical area relevant to post
- Experience of managing people and leadership
- Experience of Pathology IT systems
- Practical experience of Quality Management Systems
- Experience of performing and evaluating Risk Assessments
- Extensive practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory
- To have undertaken Research, Development and audit activities.
Desirable criteria
- Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
- Relevant scientific publications
- European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
Education
Essential criteria
- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical scientist
- Science Degree or equivalent
- Appropriate Post Graduate Masters degree or equivalent.
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- Holding or working towards a qualification that supports management responsibilities
