Job overview

An exciting new role is available in the Dietetic team at Colchester Hospital.

You will become part of a large team of dietitians and dietetic assistants with an apprentice due to start in the New Year.   You will work within a variety of inpatient specialties, community services, paediatrics and renal.

This role offers the opportunity to develop and influence service delivery in a variety of different specialist areas, specifically including renal, orthopaedics and general inpatients.   We offer support to gain competency in parenteral nutrition and will design and implement QI projects within their area of practice.

There is an expectation for you to to contribute to our established student-training programme and support other team members in their development including preceptorship.

You will participate in a variety of activities to build your CPD portfolio including training provided internally and access to external training relevant to your role.

Main duties of the job

Provide a highly specialised service to in-patients using specialist knowledge and expertise in dietetic management of complex inpatients including renal and orthopaedics, to manage ward patients, as well as supporting the adult acute referral pool to identify and prioritise appropriate patients.

Provide a highly specialised service to inpatients with renal conditions, shared with the Specialist renal Dietitians as required.

Work with the Professional Lead for Nutrition & Dietetics to develop the renal and orthopaedic and general dietetic service in line with national guidance.

Cover all areas of renal dietetics as required

Provide an out- patient service to renal patients as required.

Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences as required

Undertake joint assessments with the Speech and Language Therapists as required

Be involved in the discharge planning of patients on continuing nutrition support

Undertake QI projects relevant to the role.

Develop competency in PN and provide cover for specialist colleagues in the delivery of Parenteral Nutrition to ensure continuity of care during absences.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good clinical knowledge of dietetics
  • Experience of working within a multi- disciplinary team
  • Experience working in different clinical settings and at least 6 months clinical experience in an acute setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with a renal caseload

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
  • HCPC (Health and Care professions Council) in Dietetics
  • Clinical Supervisory Skills Course/ Student training/ Mentorship course
Desirable criteria
  • Member of British Dietetic Association
  • PENG Clinical Update course or relevant post registration training in artificial nutrition support.
  • Membership of relevasnt BDA Specialist groups e.g Renal / PENG group
