The Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre at Colchester Hospital will be one of the largest centres of its kind in Europe. 

We have fantastic opportunities for experienced Anaesthetic Practitioners or Nurses to join us as a Senior Anaesthetic Theatre Practitioners in preparation for when the centre opens in August 2024.

You will support the management of speciality based In-patient operating within orthopaedic theatres. You will be expected to manage and provide support to daily service delivery within each Theatre suite and will be supported by and reporting to the Theatre Leads.

We would consider a Band 5 -6 developmental post for the right candidate.

To join our friendly theatre team, you will need to be a motivated, confident and flexible individual with experience in an operating theatre environment. You will need to either be: NMC registered (RN1) or HCPC registered.

The Dame Clare Marx Building that will house our elective orthopaedic centre (ESEOC) opens in 2024 with a focus on elective orthopaedic surgery and day cases. The centre will have eight laminar flow theatres, three wards, recovery facilities, and support services including radiology and EBME.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure that a consistently high standard of patient focussed care is delivered in a professional, safe, timely & effective manner, underpinned at all times by best practice & in accordance with Trust policies & procedures
  • Monitor the quality and timeliness of service provided by the Elective/Emergency orthopaedic Theatre Service; participating in audits (Local, Trust & National), service improvement initiatives, focus groups & forums aimed at optimising service delivery & or the patient experience.
  • Work to support the Clinical Theatre Leads in ensuring that the clinical & operational needs of the Elective/Emergency services are met, optimising patient throughput & productivity, thereby supporting the Trust in sustaining national targets

Essential criteria
  • RGN/Dip. HE, NVQ III in Operating Department Practice/C&G 752 or Dip. HE Operating Department Practice
  • BSc (Hons ) Operating Department Practice
  • Current registration of professional body
  • Mentorship Qualification /Trust Student Assessment Course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven post registration performing as Anaesthetic Practitioner
  • Evidence of attending and applying into practice training related to anaesthetics
  • Acquired level of knowledge and skills sufficient to provide 24 hour service provision
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of service development or improvement project
  • Advanced Life Support

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of advanced clinical knowledge & ability underpinned by continual professional development
  • Ability to provide highly specialist clinical & technical services transferable to external locations
Desirable criteria
  • Formal Leadership and Management course undertaken or working towards
