We have an exciting opportunity for you to contribute to our team in providing high quality and respected clinical pharmacy services as a Clinical Pharmacy Technician – Antimicrobial Stewardship, based at Colchester Hospital.
The role is split into two complementary roles. You will spend approximately half of your time working on the Antimicrobial Stewardship agenda and the remaining half working at ward level within the clinical pharmacy service.
Being a key member of the multidisciplinary team you will be expected to fully integrate within the clinical environment providing a patient centred approach to medicines management and Antimicrobial Stewardship.
ESNEFT is about to embark on a full site wide implementation of the EPIC electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration and pharmacy stock control system replacement.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure with senior colleagues the delivery of the Trust’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Strategy; being a proactive member of the Trust’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Group accordingly.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost effective use of anti-infective medicines throughout the organisation.
- Assist in the delivery and evaluation of clinical pharmacy and Trust-wide services relating to anti-infective medicines management; this will include taking responsibility for required antibiotic-related audit activity across the organisation.
- Provide on-going guidance and mentorship to clinical pharmacy and multidisciplinary colleagues working within areas of practice throughout the organisation.
- Deliver teaching and training regarding antimicrobial topics to any staff group and to develop and maintain antimicrobial e-learning packages for use within ESNEFT and partner organisations.
- Assist the Senior Clinical Pharmacist – Antibiotic Stewardship in ensuring that all required medication safety and clinical governance issues are actioned and implemented in a timely manner.
- Assist the pharmacy department in providing a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to in-patients.

Essential criteria
- Extensive experience working as a pharmacy technician within hospital practice
- Previous clinical activity at ward level
Desirable criteria
- Experience with clinical audits
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BTech in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
- Registered pharmacy technician with the GPhC
- Formal Medicines Management Qualification
- Formal Medicines Reconciliation Qualification
- Accredited Accuracy Checking Qualification (ACT)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Computer literacy of standard databases
- Understanding of pharmacy organisational/structure (local/national)
- Understanding of the relationship of the pharmacy department to the wider multidisciplinary team
- Good pharmaceutical knowledge
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of the structure of the modern NHS
- Awareness of current national issues affecting pharmacy, especially relating to Antimicrobial Stewardship
