Job overview

The podiatry service in North East Essex provides clinic and home visits to patients who NHS podiatry needs.

This role is part of the integrated podiatry service, which provides care for all ages and variety of pathologies, including nail surgery; wound care; biomechanics; foot protection service and MDT foot clinic for diabetic patients.

The post holder will be required to participate in the full breath of the service.

You should have experience with an NHS service caseload through which you can evidence related the above areas.

We will consider applicants wishing to be considered for a band 5 to 6 development role and are able to offer preceptorship.

The service has committed to supporting the workforce of the future and as such you will support the development of staff across a range of points in their career, from assistant staff working towards the RCoP qualifications, to Apprentice podiatrists (pre-reg) and post registration staff through preceptorship and into expert practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as a specialist resource, carrying out assessments, and contributing to the development and delivery of integrated care plan.

  • Develop programmes of specialist podiatric activities, weighing options and delegating aspects of care as appropriate

  • Implement specialist aspects of the care plan, potentially acting as care coordinator and reviewing the plan on behalf of the integrated team.

  • Support patients with advice, information, persuasion and direction to community resources to encourage self-management and ongoing independence.

  • Provide support, training and advice to patients, parents and carers.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience relevant to the care group
  • Professional knowledge and skills acquired through a combination of formal training, short courses and experience to degree level of equivalent
  • Relevant post qualification training through short courses and/or further study and experience for example biomechanics, diabetes or paediatrics, working towards post graduate level of study.
  • Evidence of on-going CPD
  • Specialist skills and techniques relevant to care group
Desirable criteria
  • Competencies relevant to specialism
  • Experience of managing the work of others
  • Recognised registered qualification and further courses and experience relevant to role

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Podiatrist with HCPC with POM-A annotation
Desirable criteria
  • Registered member of the Royal college of Podiatry

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of a broad range of assessments including specialist relevant to the specialist care group and the relative benefits of each
  • Good knowledge of a range of specialist therapeutic interventions relevant to the care group including the relative benefits of each and the comparative outcomes
  • Awareness of national guidance relevant to own specialities, including, consent issues, and other legal frameworks relating to care group
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals
  • Knowledge of standards of record keeping
  • Awareness of strategic direction of ESNEFT
  • Knowledge of the current evidence based practice
